The Alperts have the rare ability to blend teaching, nurturing, and discipline in a way that is tailored to the needs of each student. Their students may not be aware of it at the time. But those of us watching them grow up surely are. – Greg Hinrichsen, Studio Parent and College Music Educator

Thinking about violin lessons for your kids?

You are probably expecting to suffer though months of squeaks, groans and scratches. Endless nursery songs and exercises. And after that, volumes of scales and music reading.

How wrong those preconceptions really are!

In fact, when I started violin, I shared many of those same thoughts. And sure enough, I was frustrated by slow progress and limiting beliefs. I worked hard, but without much focus, and achieved only a fraction of my potential, even after years.

Then, after I began to teach the violin something remarkable happened. I stumbled upon some people and ideas that turned my violin world upside down.

I began to play more easily, and more beautifully. I enjoyed my practicing like never before. In fact, I accomplished more in a five year period than I had in the previous 25. As I approach my 60s, my playing is now better than at any other time in my life. In fact, my professional orchestra colleagues noticed the difference immediately.

What shocked me the most is that these ideas worked even better for my students than they did for me. As a teacher who loves the violin dearly, I’d like to share them with you.
